Bad Homburg Kurpark: an afternoon without a checklist

Bad Homburg makes a good change of pace from Frankfurt. Its Kurpark has open lawns, old trees, curving paths and a pond that invites you to stop for a while. You can come simply to walk and sit, with a little spa-town history along the way. The city’s Kurpark guide traces the park’s English landscape style to garden designer Peter Joseph Lenné.

Let the pond set the pace

Start with the paths around the Schwanenteich, the park’s pond. Our photo catches a still day with trees reflected in the water. From here, follow the paths as far as you feel like going; the park is more enjoyable as a wander than as a list of stops. The city’s self-guided Kurpark highlights route has nine stops and a suggested duration of about 90 minutes if you would like a little structure.

Then make your way towards Brunnenallee. Around it are the Orangerie, the historic Kaiser-Wilhelms-Bad, fountains, the casino building and the park’s two Thai Salas. The buildings tell the story of Bad Homburg as a spa town, even if you only admire them from outside. The city’s park overview and Thai Sala background are useful companions on the walk.

Getting there from Frankfurt

The S5 connects Frankfurt and Bad Homburg station; check RMV for your actual departure, disruptions and ticket. From the station, you can walk through the town centre towards the Kurhaus and enter the park from that side. There is no need to book the outdoor stroll. If a guided tour, spa visit or indoor attraction interests you, check its separate opening and ticket details. The park also hosts events, which may change how quiet a particular afternoon feels. City tours and current dates

If you want to keep walking: the palace park

The Schlosspark around Bad Homburg Palace is a different park, closer to the palace and the White Tower. It makes a lovely second stop if you still have time and energy. Our other photo shows the tower above the greenery and water there; it is not a view from Kurpark. Our suggestion: Give Kurpark the time you actually want. A walk by the pond and a pause on Brunnenallee can be the whole afternoon; add the palace park only if it still sounds fun.
