ConditCouture: a cake break by Römerberg

After walking around Römerberg, you may want somewhere to sit before heading towards the Main. ConditCouture is just off the square at Fahrtor 1, on the way towards Eiserner Steg. We photographed its window and entrance in the timber-framed building. The café describes itself as a traditional Konditorei making cakes, pastries, chocolates and other sweets. Café website

Two cakes to look for

Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte (Black Forest cake) is the creamy cherry-and-chocolate choice. Sachertorte is a chocolate cake associated with Vienna, often balanced by apricot jam. If both are in the counter when you visit, sharing one slice of each would make a lovely afternoon pause. Ask what is available that day, as the cake selection can change.

The name “Original Sacher-Torte” belongs to Hotel Sacher’s own cake, so a Sachertorte from another café should not be described as that original product. If you avoid alcohol, ask the staff about the ingredients of the Black Forest cake rather than assuming its recipe is alcohol-free. Hotel Sacher’s explanation
