Main-Taunus-Zentrum: an open-air shopping day near Frankfurt

If you want a shopping day outside Frankfurt’s busy centre, Main-Taunus-Zentrum (MTZ) in Sulzbach gives you room to stroll. Its shopping streets are outdoors, with shop entrances along the route, so the day feels quite different from an enclosed mall. It is a regular shopping centre, not an outlet: go for the range of stores and a relaxed walk, rather than expecting outlet prices. With its Food Garden restaurant area, you can also make a meal part of the outing.

What to do there

The centre lists around 170 specialist shops. Instead of trying to see every one, check the current centre map for two or three stops you care about, then leave time for lunch or a coffee. There is also a Kinopolis cinema if you want to stretch the outing into the evening. Because the route between shops is open to the air, bring a layer for rain or cold weather. Centre overview

Make time for the Food Garden

MTZ is also putting more focus on eating out. The centre calls its newer dining area Food Garden, an open-air place to sit down after shopping. The official Food Garden restaurant list includes different kinds of meals, so pick a place that suits your group and check that restaurant’s current hours before you go.

Getting there and planning your visit

The address is Main-Taunus-Zentrum 1, 65843 Sulzbach/Taunus. Several buses stop directly at the centre, including 253, 803, 804, 810 and 814; plan the connection for your starting point, since this is not a shopping stop directly beside a central Frankfurt S-Bahn station. The centre currently publishes Monday–Thursday 10:00–20:00; Friday–Saturday 10:00–22:00; Sunday closed for the shopping area. Some restaurants can open on Sunday even when the shops are closed, but individual hours vary. Official hours

Our suggestion: Pick MTZ when shopping is the main event and you want space to wander. If the weather looks poor or you have only an hour in central Frankfurt, MyZeil may suit your day better.
