Where should you stay in Frankfurt?

When looking at hotels, it’s tempting to choose the shortest distance from Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof. That can work, but a better first question is: What will you do first after dropping off your bags? A short walk to the old town, an early flight, a trade fair, or day trips by train can point you to different parts of the city.

If this is your first city break
For a short visit focused on Römerberg, the New Old Town and the Main, start your search in Innenstadt or Altstadt. Being able to walk back to your hotel between stops is particularly welcome with children or after a long flight. If prices or room choices don’t suit you, look at a nearby district with a straightforward connection rather than paying for an address you won’t use much. If the train station is the reason to stay nearby
Hauptbahnhof can be a useful base when you have early trains or several day trips. But two hotels described as “near the station” can feel very different on foot. Open the exact entrance on a map, look at your walking route at the hour you expect to arrive, and read recent reviews about the street and room noise. If a route doesn’t feel right for your group, choose a different street or take a short public-transport or taxi ride. This is a hotel-by-hotel decision, not a verdict on the whole district.
Messe, Sachsenhausen or the airport?
For a fair or conference, check the event’s entrance first. Messe Frankfurt has more than one public-transport stop and entrance, so the nearest-looking hotel is not always the simplest on the day. Messe arrival information
Sachsenhausen gives you access to riverside walks and places to eat across the Main; the Brückenviertel has its own cafés and small shops. An airport hotel makes sense for an early departure or a short overnight stop. “Airport hotel” can mean a direct terminal connection, a hotel at Gateway Gardens, or a shuttle ride. The airport lists the actual locations; check your terminal and how you’ll get there at your departure hour. A five-minute check before paying
- Put the exact hotel address into RMV’s journey planner with your arrival point and first destination.
- Look at the final walk with luggage, and at how you’ll get back in the evening.
- Check the room details that matter to you: family beds, accessibility, breakfast and cancellation terms.
- If you plan to travel on a fair date, compare the actual rate for your dates rather than a typical price.
