An easy day out from Frankfurt: which place fits you?

You don’t need to cover three towns in one day. Pick one place that suits your mood and leave enough time to enjoy it. These are three quite different outings from the Frankfurt area. How long each takes depends on whether you start at the airport, a city hotel or somewhere else, and whether you travel by train or car.

Mainz: streets, river and printing history
Mainz makes a good choice if you’d like history without turning the day into a checklist. Explore the old town around St Martin’s Cathedral, then wander towards the Rhine. If you want one indoor stop, check the Gutenberg Museum’s current exhibition. The museum is presently at Reichklarastraße 1, in the Natural History Museum building, while its old building is being replaced. Don’t navigate to its former address without checking. Wiesbaden: an elegant change of scene
Wiesbaden is a good fit if you like graceful buildings and a relaxed city walk. Start around the Kurhaus. If you have more time and the conditions suit you, look into Neroberg for a view over town. Bad Homburg: room to slow down

How to choose your route
Enter your actual starting address and destination in RMV’s route planner if you’re using local transport. From the airport, don’t assume the Frankfurt city-only ticket covers a trip to one of these places. Compare the full door-to-door time, including a terminal transfer if you arrive at Terminal 3. If you plan to take a car, check the traffic and the exact destination instead of relying on a generic “one-hour trip” label.
